Beginner to Expert

Difficulty Levels

Choose Beginner, Standard, Advanced, or Expert on every tracked challenge. Each mode changes the task and keeps its own private local record history.

Four modes

Choose the amount of challenge you want.

Every tracked challenge now separates personal bests and recent results by difficulty, so a Beginner record never overwrites an Expert record.

Level 1

Beginner

More time, larger targets, slower pacing, shorter sessions, or fewer rounds depending on the challenge.

3 rank points per completed run
Baseline

Standard

The original Ruth Performance Lab settings. Standard personal bests continue to power the 0–100 Lab Performance Score.

5 rank points per completed run
Level 3

Advanced

Faster sequences, smaller targets, longer sessions, denser grids, or stricter task demands.

8 rank points per completed run
Level 4

Expert

The strongest local mode with the most demanding configuration available for each supported challenge.

12 rank points per completed run

Pass 5 guidance

Difficulty suggestions unlock as you build experience.

Suggestions are optional guidance, not locks. Every difficulty remains available at any time.

Beginner → Standard

3 completed Beginner runs

After three Beginner runs and a local Beginner record, the challenge suggests moving to Standard.

Standard → Advanced

5 completed Standard runs

Five Standard runs unlock the suggestion to try the harder Advanced configuration.

Advanced → Expert

5 completed Advanced runs

Five Advanced runs unlock the Expert suggestion. Expert remains the top local mode.

Medal progression

Higher difficulty, higher medal

Difficulty changes the task, not just the label.

Reaction and keyboard tests can require more trials. Aim Trainer uses smaller targets and more hits. Memory challenges use larger patterns, faster displays, or shorter viewing times. Tracking uses a smaller, faster target. Focus and search challenges increase their rounds or visual density. Typing uses longer passages with stricter accuracy requirements.

Because those versions are not directly interchangeable, the site stores separate records for Beginner, Standard, Advanced, and Expert. Recent-result boards also filter to the difficulty currently selected on that challenge page.

How to switch difficulty

Open any tracked challenge and use the difficulty selector immediately above the game. Changing the setting reloads the challenge so the new configuration starts cleanly.

Why the Performance Score stays on Standard

The existing 0–100 Lab Performance Score is intentionally based on Standard personal bests. That gives the site one consistent baseline. Harder modes contribute to Lab Rank instead of distorting the original score.
